Student airfare general information, mainly regarding American/Canadian students. Links for agencies specialising in student airfare for European and American students.

Student Airfare

Student Airfare

As a student you are normally required to have an International Student Identity Card (ISIC-card).

You must be either a student or teaching faculty member who is currently registered in a (government) accredited US/Canadian college, community college, or university of 2-4 years, to be eligible to purchase student airfare from many American based companies.

You do not need to be attending school full time, as long as you are currently enrolled and taking/teaching classes. Some Student Airfare do have age requirements.

Most tickets purchased in this way are e-tickets so you will not receive anything in the mail. E-ticketed passengers will receive an e-mail with a link to their itinerary, once their student airfare has been ticketed. You should expect this e-mail within 3 days of purchasing online.

Whether you receive a student airfare or an e-ticket or a paper ticket is up to the airline. All domestic flights are e-ticketed and most international flights are as well. Intra-European flights, however, require a paper ticket. Although many budget airlines use e-ticketing for student airfare and such.

Insurance Considerations

Insurance should be considered when travelling anywhere worldwide, student airfare purchasers are typically on low-budgets and so often ignor the benefits of insurance, it should be noted that this group s as high risk as any other during travelling.
